Tax Credits
Recently, the U.S. government authorized a tax incentive for homeowners who increase the energy efficiency in their home. Most new garage doors qualify for this tax credit. The amount credited is 30% of the cost of the door, parts only, up to $1,500.
The following qualifications are the homeowners’ responsibility:
1) The door must be located at the taxpayer’s primary residence.
2) The garage and all outside entrances to the garage (including windows) must be insulated.
3) Installation must occur in 2009 or 2010.
4) The garage door is expected to remain in service for a minimum of five years.
5) Everything else is the responsibility of your garage door experts.
Below are specific manufacturer tax credit information downloads.
Energy Star’s web site has specification for qualifying household products. Please see their web site for specific information. Our door suppliers have supplied certification statements specific to their garage doors. These statements are for your personal use and are not to be filed with your tax return.
